Happy New Year!

Well, in just few hours away in Madrid will they be chiming “Feliz Año Nuevo” and “Hyvää Uutta Vuotta” in Helsinki.  Just one more hour in Istanbul, will they utter “Mutlu Yillar” and “Heri Qwa Mwaka Mpya” in Nairobi.  Recently, they might have exclaimed ” سنة سعيدة” in Kabul and “Suba Aluth Avuruddhak” in Colombo.  Hopefully asleep in Naypyidaw, but may again mutter “ပျော်ရွှင်ဖွယ်နှစ်သစ်” and “Manigong Bagong Taon” in Manila.  Still eagerly awaiting in Honolulu will they say “Hau’oli Makahiki Hou”and “Bonne Anne Cher” in New Orleans.

God promised language and cultural diversity for all eternity, so maybe in 12,351 years from now, will I visit Osaka and greet others by exclaiming “あけましておめでとう.”
